Finding a Statute

Statutes, or Acts of Parliament, are primary sources of law. A Bill is presented to Parliament and passes through various stages, becoming an Act when given the Royal Assent. Bills can be accessed via the internet on: http://services.Parliament.uk/bills/

Below, click on the plus icon next to the name of the type of Act which will reveal a description of the type of Act.

Concern policy and apply universally to the whole country.  They are originally Government or Hybrid Bills.

Originally Private or Hybrid Bills and will apply to a restricted area, group of people, organisation or individual.

It is important that you are able to locate Acts and are able to navigate your way around them. Acts can be accessed via the internet on: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/

Step 1: Open a new browser/tab.

Step 2: Go to http://www.legislation.gov.uk/.

Step 3: Go to the box on the top right and next to ‘Title:’ insert ‘Legal Services Act’. Next to ‘Year:’ insert 2007. Hit Search
